Eight days and counting till the World Series of Poker Ladies Event. I know what you’re thinking, you are no lady, but I am still gonna play. I really hope my luck changes before I get down there, I have been taking some really bad beats lately. You know what they say (or at least I always say), you may be the best player in the world but if you are not having any luck there’s no way you are going to win. I have grinded out some tournaments where I have had a couple lucky hands and that was it. It was tough going. I am going to drive down with my partner, so I will have a lot of time to think about strategy. My plan right now is to play my game with a couple added rules. Rule #1: I will not go all-in unless I absolutely have the nuts. Ok, thats what I say now. A couple years ago I was playing at the World Poker Tour Ladies Event at Bay 101 and a couple days earlier, I had taken a really bad beat with pocket Jacks. So I sat down at the table and before the tournament even started I said out loud, I am not going to play pocket Jacks. About a half hour into the tournament, you guessed it, I get pocket Jacks and push all-in pre flop. The women two seats down calls with pocket Aces and just like that, KABOOM, I was out of the tournament. So far I only have Rule #1. So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I really try not to be superstitious, but, I bought a new coin a couple months back to use as a card protecter. It is a beautiful 1922 Silver Peace Dollar, but I swear to god, ever since I started using it, I have had the worst luck. I think superstitions go along way with poker players and I have really tried to avoid getting too attached to any one thing. I do think I will take a couple other card protecters with me to Vegas though, you know, just incase.
